Louis Tomlinson is a massive football fan but his fanboy moment has received backlash from netizens.

The One Direction star was on stage when England took the field against Mexico in the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During his show in Charlotte, the singer put on the livestream of the match in the venue and watched the game along with the audience while also performing.

The pop star also reportedly began the show 20 minutes earlier in order to finish early.

When English player Jude Bellingham scored the goal putting England in the lead, the pop singer paused singing and celebrated the moment.

However, the moment received backlash as audience members complained that they were there for the show not for the match.

One user wrote on X “If I were at a concert and the singer was watching football while their band was doing all the work, I would be pissed off.”

However, other argued that it was a special moment for the singer’s nation so it was justified. One fan wrote “going to the concert of an unapologetically football guy and being upset he’s doing football guy things.”

England beat Mexico in the match and secured their seat in the Quarter final.
