Karan Johar has expressed his gratitude after Narendra Modi referenced his iconic film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai during an address in Jakarta.

The filmmaker shared a clip of the Prime Minister's speech on his Instagram Stories, saying he was honoured to see the beloved Bollywood classic receive recognition on an international stage.

During his address, Modi highlighted the popularity of Indian cinema in Indonesia, specifically mentioning the film's title track. 

“Yahan Bharat ka gana ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ bahut hi lokpriya hai," he said. "Aaj maine is par kaha ki jab Bharat aur Indonesia saath milkar chalte hain, toh ‘kuch kuch’ se bhi aage badhkar ‘bahut kuch’ hota hai.”

Using the film's title as a play on words, the Prime Minister underlined the strengthening relationship between India and Indonesia, suggesting that cooperation between the two countries leads to outcomes that go beyond “kuch kuch” and become “bahut kuch.”

Johar responded by reposting the speech on Instagram Stories, writing, “Elated & honoured to have our esteemed Prime Minister @narendramodi ji speak about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in Jakarta. There is indeed a language that transcends all it's love. Thank you for embracing & making this song live forever!!!”

Released in 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai remains one of Bollywood's most celebrated romantic dramas and continues to enjoy enduring popularity with audiences across India and overseas.
