Anurag Kashyap recently expressed his eagerness to watch Diljit Dosanjh’s newly released film Satluj, saying that the prolonged controversy and repeated bans had only increased the audience’s curiosity.

The 53-year-old filmmaker, who garnered widespread recognition for directing the 2012 cult-classic Gangs of Wasseypur, opened up about his excitement for the biographical drama.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the Black Friday director wrote, “The thing about banning something is that the more you ban something, the more people want to watch it. I was not even planning to watch this film but now I will have to watch to understand why it got banned.”

In a similar vein, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma also shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter) after watching the Diljit Dosanjh starrer.

He tweeted, “Just saw SATLUJ and it is not a film, but a deep wound that will never heal. It stirs up the sludge in one of the darkest chapters of our history. This is cinema used as confrontation, where @diljitdosanjh acts with a quiet fury with no chest thumping heroism.. His only weapons are a ledger and a conscience. @rampalarjun adds layers of moral rot in the institutional complicity that feels chillingly realistic.”

It is pertinent to mention that the film was originally slated for theatrical release. However, after facing multiple hurdles with the CBFC, it premiered on ZEE5 following a delay of nearly three years.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj follows the story of Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh. The film premiered on ZEE5 on Friday, July 3.

Meanwhile, Kashyap recently collaborated with Bobby Deol on the crime thriller Bandar, which was released on Thursday, June 5.
