The debate around Satluj continued after Indian filmmaker Imtiaz Ali publicly showed his support for actor Diljit Dosanjh following the film's removal from ZEE5 in India.

Imtiaz had shared the film's billboard on his Instagram Story and posted a short message for Diljit. He wrote, “Tu Vaapas Aayega.”

He also added, “Nirbhau... nirvair... Waheguru.”

The Jab We Met director had worked with Diljit Dosanjh on Amar Singh Chamkila and Main Vaapas Aaunga. His message came as several people from the film industry reacted to the controversy surrounding Satluj.

The film, which was earlier titled Punjab '95, had faced a long certification process before its digital release.

The movie had briefly appeared on ZEE5 before it was removed from the platform. The streaming service later issued a statement saying the film had become unavailable "in light of current developments." No detailed reason was provided.

Before the film was taken down, director Honey Trehan had spoken about its release. He said, “Even till yesterday afternoon, I wasn't sure if the film would come out.”

He added, “We've reached this point so many times before that I had stopped allowing myself to believe it.”

Diljit had also addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session. He had said he knew the film might not remain on the platform for long. He encouraged viewers who had already watched it to let others know about the film and said he would continue to stand with Punjab.

Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma had shared his views on the controversy surrounding the film’s availability. He had urged authorities not to suppress the movie and described it as an important piece of filmmaking.

In his statement, Varma had written, “Please don't do to Satluj what has been done to Jaswant Singh Khalra.”

The Satya director had also praised the performances in the film. While talking about Dosanjh’s role, he had said that the actor portrayed the character with “a quiet fury with no chest-thumping heroism.” He had added that the character’s strength came from “a ledger and a conscience.”

Varma had also appreciated Arjun Rampal’s performance and said that the actor had brought depth to the portrayal of institutional issues. He had described Trehan’s direction as a slow and investigative approach without unnecessary sensationalism.

Satluj is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist known for investigating alleged illegal cremations in Punjab during the 1980s and 1990s.
