Saif Ali Khan has joined the growing chorus of praise for Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar films, and he is not mincing words about the impact  it had on Indian cinema.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the 54-year-old actor was asked whether his approach to choosing scripts had shifted recently. 

His answer was pretty clear. "I see a time before Dhurandhar and a time after. It's up to us whether we catch up or not and wake up or not. It seems like an obvious idea to make amazing music rather than creating a new album for each film, and to draw on all kinds of things from all around the world, while not being too frightened of English also," he said.

A big part of what impressed him was the music. Composer Shashwat Sachdev put together a soundtrack that blended original tracks like Shararat and Gehra Hua with remixed classics like Ishq Jalakar, Lutt Le Gaya and Run Down the City – Monica. 

The same approach carried into the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and both soundtracks topped streaming charts.

The Race star singled out Shararat, the film's dance number featuring Ayesha Khan and Krystle D'Souza, as particularly special.

"Something as revolutionary as that, imagine if that was to change the way of hiring a beautiful leading lady to do an 'item' for you. If you just treat it as a song and have these two girls performing as you would in a wedding, it doesn't jar the eyes at all," he said.

The two Dhurandhar films, released in December 2025 and March 2026, collectively made over Rs 3,100 crore at the box office. Dhurandhar 2 is currently the second-highest-grossing Indian film ever. 

Both films starred Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan and others.

Saif was last seen in Netflix's Kartavya, which earned him strong reviews. Coming up next are the period drama Hum Hindustani and Priyadarshan's Haiwaan, where he reunites with Akshay Kumar after nearly two decades.
