Indian actor Saif Ali Khan had shared an interesting memory from the making of Omkara, revealing how a key scene from the film had been changed after a discussion with director Vishal Bhardwaj.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif had recalled that Vishal Bhardwaj had suggested shooting a mirror scene where his character Langda Tyagi would appear naked. The Dil Chahta Hai actor had said that he felt uncomfortable because of the large number of people present on the set.

Saif had explained that he had given a humorous response to the director. He said, “If you direct me naked, I’ll do it.” According to the actor, Vishal Bhardwaj had refused the condition, and the scene had later been changed.

Saif had also shared that he later felt the original idea could have worked well on screen. He said, “Even now, when I look back, I wouldn’t have minded. Maybe I should have, in the sense that he shoots from the back, in silhouette.”

The Salaam Namaste actor had revealed that the final version of the scene had taken a different direction. He said Vishal Bhardwaj had removed the long dialogue sequence and had come up with another idea during the shoot.

Saif had recalled that the director had asked him to stand in front of a mirror, hold a heavy object, and break it. He had said that the action was meant to show the emotions of his character without using many words.

The Agent Vinod actor had quoted Vishal Bhardwaj’s idea, saying, “I want you to smash the mirror yourself and break it. Hopefully it’ll fracture into these different pieces of your face.”

He had added that the scene had become more powerful because of the visual storytelling. Saif had said, “I thought, ‘Yes, you’re right. I don’t need to. This is the whole scene in one shot.’”

Omkara had featured Saif Ali Khan as Langda Tyagi, a character that had received attention for its intense portrayal. The film had been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and was based on William Shakespeare’s play Othello.
