‘Dhurandhar’ beats new releases on Day 43; ‘Happy Patel’ opens lower on Day 1
‘Dhurandhar’ outperforms ‘Happy Patel’ on Day 43; Vir Das film struggles on opening day
Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar has reached the end of its run after having an amazing box office run that lasted for weeks. Still, it manages to outperform Day 1 performance of fresh movies even on its 43rd day (Friday).
Happy Patel day 1 collection
Fresh reports reveal that Dhurandhar made ₹1.65 crore at the box office on Friday which is six weeks after the release. The new release Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos directed by Vir Das had a tough time on its opening day and according to Sacnilk it could earn only ₹1.25 crore.
On the contrary, Happy Patel is a spy comedy that is produced under a much smaller budget. However, it is still backed by Aamir Khan who will also be appearing briefly in the film. Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos had an overall 9.57% Hindi occupancy on the first day.
In addition to this the other movie released this week is Pulkit Samrat's Rahu Ketu. It also managed to garner only ₹1 crore.
A classic underdog story
Vir Das told PTI that the theatrical prospects of the movie which is releasing at a time when only big budget spectacles like Dhurandhar are being successful at the box office are quite positive. He quoted the example of a small underdog film with big dreams to describe his movie.
"I'm no one to lay any claims to film industry knowledge. This film was shot in 31 days... We really are a small size film. I think we have probably the catering budget of Border 2, if you think about it. I like to think of us as an underdog who takes big swings. That's how I perceive this movie."
