Apple TV's longest-running series 'For All Mankind' is officially ending
'For All Mankind' season 5 set to release on March 27
Even before season 5 airs, Apple TV has confirmed For All Mankind for its sixth season.
However, it comes with a catch.
It will be its final season as one of Apple TV’s longest running shows alongside The Morning Show.
The fifth season kicks off its fifth season on March 27, with its spin off Star City coming on screens on May 29.
The announcement came from creators Ronald D Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, who expressed their gratitude to Apple TV+ for supporting the show through its intended finale.
"Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped," the trio shared in a joint statement.
Continuing, "We’re incredibly proud of what this series has become, and grateful to Apple TV and Sony Pictures Television for helping us see it through to its final chapter."
In chat with Variety, Matt revealed that the final season will take the story into the 2020s, fulfilling a longtime creative goal.
"I think from the beginning, the thing that we were focused on, and we didn’t know quite how many seasons it would take to get there, was that we wanted to reach the present day," he noted.
"We wanted to tell the arc of the story from the initial divergence of 1969, and then reach the present moment, and see just how different the world we’re in now could have been had we kept pushing for progress and kept pushing forward as a species," he added.
"Honestly, what’s incredible is how close we’re still to the roadmap we laid out with Ron really early on," Ben chimed in. "It's been an incredible journey and I think the ending’s gonna be something else."
