Dominican singer Alex Bueno has died in New York following months of health complications
Dominican singer Alex Bueno has died in New York City following a prolonged health battle his team announced on Thursday.
He was one of the most celebrated voices in Dominican music known for a career spanning more than four decades.
In a statement representatives confirmed that Bueno died on June 18 at 9:43 a.m.
“With our deepest sorrow and highest respect, we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Bueno,” the statement read describing his death as an irreplaceable loss for both the music industry and those who admired his work.
The singer had faced a series of health challenges in recent months. In September 2025 he was hospitalised after an episode of hypoglycemia that was initially linked to exhaustion and a demanding performance schedule.
Further medical evaluations later revealed a brain tumour which was surgically removed.
According to his team tests conducted after the procedure detected cancerous cells leading Bueno to begin preventive treatment.
In recent weeks the artist remained hospitalised in intensive care while receiving specialised medical care following complications related to low sodium levels and blood pressure.
Known by fans as “El Mayimbito” and “El Ruiseñor de la Sierra” Bueno built a successful career in merengue, bachata, salsa and bolero.
He spent more than a decade living in New York while continuing to perform for audiences across Latin America and the United States.
