Main Vaapas Aaunga really seems to have risen like a phoenix from the ashes. This romantic drama directed by Imtiaz Ali was written off after that dull first weekend where it managed only ₹5 crore net in India.

Still word of mouth started doing its thing in fact the film first picked up in the weekdays and later it even showed a massive 130% jump on its second Friday.

Now it looks like the movie is poised for a solid second weekend too. And well Imtiaz Ali is clearly over the moon about it.

The filmmaker is in Delhi right now where he did that sort of sudden stop over to theatres that were screening his film on Friday and you could see the delight from the audiences.

On the sidelines of one such visit Imtiaz talked with ANI and basically addressed how the film’s fortunes have shifted for the better.

“On the day the film was released last Friday, and now a week later on Friday again, the collections are almost double compared to the opening Friday. This has all happened because of the audience, due to strong word of mouth. It is an overwhelming feeling, a matter of great joy, and I am also a bit surprised. I am very happy, and I express my heartfelt gratitude to the audience,” Imtiaz said.
