Former child star Mara Wilson has spoken about her life as a child star and the challenges she faced growing up in public eyes.

The 39-year-old was only 6 when she was cast as Matilda in the famous adaptation of the Roald Dahl book based on the magical child with special powers.

Before Matilda, Mara had already gained recognition for her role in 1993’s family comedy Mrs. Doubtfire, starring the late comedian Robin Williams.

The Simple Wish star spoke about it in a new interview with People saying “I think that when I was younger, sometimes it felt a little difficult.”

“It almost felt as if Matilda were an older sister whose shadow I lived in,” she said.

Mara added that at the time, the public wa sin love with Matilda they saw in the movie not the child playing the character.

“The lessons of Matilda and the character of Matilda have sort of stayed with me. And I consider myself very, very lucky to have played that part.” she added.
