Role Model initially had no plans to involve his girlfriend, A-list Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson, in his music.

But the indie film darling was interested in doing so for his new song Love I You.

On Tuesday, August 4, Role Model (real name Tucker Pillsbury) reflected on the viral Johnson voiceover cameo for the song from his new album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass.

The American singer admitted that he “had a lot of names to pick from for that.”

“And then Dakota came to the studio one day, and Mason [Stoops, guitarist and producer] was like, ‘Why don’t you do it?’” Role Model remembered.

Role Model insisted on stopping, saying, “We’re not mixing work and relationships.”

“She was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined,” the singer added. “So I was like, ‘OK, if she’s down’ — I mean, that’s an amazing cameo.”

Confirming his relationship with the Materialist actor, Role Model says that they choose to keep their relationship private.

“Keeping things about music is what I’ve learned. Otherwise, the internet just has a field day,” he told the outlet. “Everyone’s a detective.”

Johnson appears during the bridge of Love I You, engaging in a flirtatious exchange with Role Model.

The track, from his upcoming album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass., releasing on August 7, explores loneliness and the search for companionship, with footage of the pair's playful conversation recently surfacing in a TikTok clip from a live performance.
