Claudine Longet, the French-American singer and television personality, has died at the age of 84.

Her death was confirmed on social media by her nephew, Bryan Longet, who described her as a figure of “elegance, talent and kindness” and said her legacy would live on through her music and memories.

Bryan wrote the following statement, "Even though she is no longer physically with us, her light, elegance, talent and kindness will continue to live on through the memories, music, photos and love she leaves behind…As many of you know, Claudine was not only an icon to me — she was also my aunt, and someone incredibly special in my life. Since I was a little boy, I always told her that I would remain her number one fan, and that will never change."

No cause of death was disclosed.

Longet rose to prominence in the 1960s as a pop singer and actress, and was once married to entertainer Andy Williams. However, her public image changed dramatically after the 1976 shooting of Olympic skier Spider Sabich in Aspen, Colorado, a case that drew intense media attention at the time.

Claudine's early fame was overshadowed by a high-profile legal case.

She was later convicted of a lesser charge and maintained the shooting was accidental. Following the trial, Longet largely withdrew from public life, living quietly away from the spotlight for decades.
