Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were once the most shipped couple of the industry.

The couple starred together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1999 romance drama Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which brought both widespread recognition.

However, beyond the camera, their relationship was marred with multiple issues that affected their careers simultaneously.

Their relationship was heavily covered by media while rumours of alleged infidelity and aggressive behavior flew by.

The beauty queen, who had won Miss World 1994 title, claimed in 2002 that she was a victim of Salman’s verbal, physical, and emotional abuse, calling the relationship a “nightmare”.

The Devdas star also went on to accuse the famous Khan for trash talking her after their separation.

She famously stated “He would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected that I was having affairs with my co-stars. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks and I would go to work as if nothing happened.”

On the other hand, the Tere Naam star has maintained his silence on the matter and has not responded to the accusations.

In a viral appearance on Rajat Sharma’s Aapki Adalat, when asked about his former partner, Salman simply replied “She’s somebody's wife and I am very happy that she is married”.

While Aishwarya married Dhoom 2 co-star Abhishek Bachchan, Salman did not get married.

Years later, the duo is still mentioned by their fans in positive light, contrary to what the reality of their relationship at the time was portrayed to be.
