Achraf Hakimi breaks silence with explosive post amid assault trial update
Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial on rape charges
Morocco's World Cup hopes have been hit by Achraf Hakimi’s bombshell legal drama.
The captain of the Morrocan national team is set to stand trial on a rape charge following a ruling by a French appeals court.
The news comes just days before his side's Group C match against Scotland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to reports from ESPN and the Associated Press, the Versailles appeals court announced on Friday, June 19, that the Paris Saint-Germain defender will face trial.
In a post made on X, the footballer wrote “Today, a story that is not mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life, and above all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I've become an easy target.”
The athlete added that he is “looking forward to it.”
Achraf will face trial over allegations stemming from an encounter with a 24-year-old woman in Paris in 2023.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo said “After more than three years of legal proceedings, and after being defamed and dragged through the mud by Achraf Hakimi's defense, the court's decision brings my client a sense of relief and hope.”
As of now, the woman’s identity has not been disclosed to public.
Meanwhile the footballer continues to deny the allegations.
Morocco plays against Scotland on June 19.
