Richa Chadha defends Dia Mirza amid backlash over son’s behaviour
Richa also said that people should look at Dia's environmental work before judging her
Indian actress Richa Chadha came out in support of Dia Mirza after the actor faced criticism on social media over a video involving her young son.
The discussion started after Dia shared an incident from a podcast with Soha Ali Khan. She had recalled that her five-year-old son, Avyaan, asked a delivery worker to take back the plastic bag and straw that came with coconut water. The clip spread online and drew mixed reactions from social media users.
After the criticism grew, Richa shared a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter) defending Dia.
She wrote, “Y’all wonder why actors don’t speak up? (Damned if you do, damned if you don’t!)”
Richa also said that people should look at Dia's environmental work before judging her. She wrote, “Just FYI, @deespeak is involved with a bamboo paper company and WITHOUT, a plastic recycling start-up that makes sunglasses.”
The Fukrey actress further added, “She gifted me 1100 trees as a wedding gift. She doesn’t own a Jaguar LOL, I have only seen two electric cars ever.”
Richa also praised Dia's efforts for the environment. She wrote, “Dia does more for ecological restoration in a day than many people do in a whole year.”
During the podcast, Dia had shared what happened when the delivery reached her home. She said, “The coconut wala delivered the coconut and nothing burns my blood more than coconut water arriving in plastic bags with plastic straws.”
She recalled that her son spoke to the delivery worker and said, “Bhaiya plastic me lekar aaye hai, hamari ghar mein plastic not allowed, aap usko plastic se nikalo, usko neeche rakho aur plastic aur straw leke jao.”
Podcast host Soha Ali Khan had responded by praising the child's confidence. She said, “Imagine standing up to somebody who is an adult and to have that conviction.”
The discussion continued online after the podcast clip went viral, while Richa's post added another voice to the debate surrounding the incident.
