Amaal Malik takes aim at Tanishk Bagchi over ‘Saiyaara’ title track plagiarism
Amaal Malik accuses Tanishk Bagchi for copying 'Saiyaara' track from other sources
Amaal Malik recently called out Tanishk Bagchi for allegedly plagiarising Saiyaara title track amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Awarapan 2 title track.
The 36-year-old singer, known for lending his voice to several hit Bollywood soundtracks, criticised Bagchi for claiming royalties from Yash Raj Films for the Saiyaara title track.
On Thursday, July 23, Malik wrote a long note revealing how Bagchi came to compose the title track of Saiyaara.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he penned, “You’re a bloody thief, your originals are also not originals, they are complete copies of Pakistani songs, some other composer’s stolen songs, folk melody lifts or just straight copies from even people’s YouTube covers. You copied #Saiyaara from #HumnawaMere and out of respect, Jubin Nautiyal had to keep quiet as he was part of the same film.”
It is pertinent to mention that last week, Bagchi claimed that he had not yet received ₹8 lakh in royalties from the hit track of Saiyaara.
This comes on the heels of the Awarapan 2 title track, Yeh Awarapan, facing online backlash, with fans comparing the new song to the original track from the 2007 film Awarapan.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, and debutant Aniruddh Rawal.
Yeh Awarapan has been sung by Arijit Singh, and the film is slated for release on Friday, August 14.
