Olivia Rodrigo shares surprising details about ‘SOUR’ album rollout
Olivia Rodrigo has revealed that her debut album SOUR did not follow her original plans
Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about her debut album SOUR revealing that its rollout did not go exactly as she originally planned.
The 23-year-old singer said she had initially intended to include more tracks and later release a deluxe edition but those plans were ultimately changed during the album’s development and release process.
In an interview with The Times Rodrigo explained that she had written and set aside several songs while working on the project wanting the record to fully reflect her emotions at the time.
“I remember I saved up so many tracks for SOUR because I just wanted to spill my guts on this record,” she said adding that she was later advised to keep the album more limited in scope.
Rodrigo said she ultimately released a 11-track version of SOUR which went on to become a major global success and established her as one of pop’s breakout stars.
She also revealed that she had wanted to release a deluxe version including songs that did not make the final cut but was advised against it to avoid affecting the momentum of the album’s success.
Despite the changes SOUR went on to achieve record-breaking performance becoming one of the most-streamed albums by a female artist on Spotify and cementing Rodrigo’s early career impact.
The singer later followed up with her second album GUTS which fans have since linked thematically to the emotions and unreleased material from her debut era.
Fans reacted strongly to her comments online with some praising the decision to keep SOUR concise while others reflected on how her later work seemed to carry forward the intensity of what she did not release at the time.
