French ice dancers snag gold after controversies
Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron won the Olympic gold
French ice dancers Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron won the Olympic gold on Wednesday.
The duo’s victory comes after a series of controversies after they teamed up in March 2025.
With a score of 225.82 in their free dance on February 11, the duo beat Team USA by a margin of 1.42. Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier took bronze after finishing third.
Fournier and Guillaume celebrated their win with cheers and hugs as they got emotional on the rink.
The team’s controversies linked to their past relationships have followed them to the Olympics.
Fournier’s former partner Nikolaj Sørensen was suspended from the sport in 2024 after he was accused of a 2012 sexual assault of a former skater and coach.
Guillaume was accused of being “controlling, demanding and critical” by his longtime partner Gabriella Papadakis, with whom he won Gold in 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
Responding to Gabriella’s comment of saying she was “terrified” by him, the ice skater denied all allegations saying it is “false”.
