Angelina Jolie has opposed Brad Pitt's latest request for years of her financial records, arguing he has misrepresented her position in their ongoing legal dispute over Château Miraval.

According to a court filing submitted on June 26 in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by PEOPLE, Jolie asked the court not to compel her to produce tax returns and other financial records dating back to 2017. 

The request came after Pitt's June 18 filing sought documents showing her "income and profit participation payments" from 2017 through 2019.

In his filing, Pitt argued that "Jolie has made her alleged financial vulnerability central to her case."

Jolie's legal team rejected that characterisation, maintaining that her claims have never centred on financial hardship. Instead, they argued that Pitt had inaccurately portrayed her position throughout the case.

"The issue is not whether Jolie needed the money — the issue is that she was trying to untangle her life and her finances from her controlling and abusive ex-husband," the filing stated. "That distinction makes all the difference."

Pitt had also argued that Jolie made her financial condition relevant by alleging she sought "financial independence" and had "concluded that she needed to sell her interest in Chateau Miraval" to achieve it.

However, Jolie's attorneys disputed that interpretation, stating that she "has never alleged that she was in financial distress."

"Her allegations are clear that she sought to untangle her financial life from the ex-spouse she was divorcing," the filing added.

The latest filing marks another chapter in the former couple's prolonged legal battle over the French winery estate, which has remained the subject of multiple court disputes since their divorce proceedings began.
