Michael Patrick, best known for his appearance in Game of Thrones, has passed away at the age of 35.

On Wednesday, April 8, the late Irish actor’s wife, Naomi Sheehan, took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news that he died following a battle with motor neurone disease.

Patrick had been living with motor neurone disease, a condition that affects the nerves. Its most common form is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), though his exact diagnosis was not shared.

“Last night, Mick sadly passed away in the Northern Ireland Hospice,” Sheehan wrote.

She added, “He was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease 1st February 2023. He was admitted 10 days ago and was cared for by the incredible team there. He passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”

Sheehan also spoke about her late husband’s strength and dedication in fighting the disease, calling him an inspiration to those around him and highlighting the lasting impact he left behind.

“We are so grateful for every person who supported us through the last few years,” she noted.

Toward the end, Sheehan shared that Patrick remained full of life and found joy in the little things.

“Mick loved this quote from Brendan Behan and this feels appropriate now: ‘The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink and somebody to love you.’ So, don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love. Naomi — Mick’s wife,” she concluded.

Patrick’s final social media post was on February 6, 2026, when he shared that his neurologist had estimated he had one year left to live, which ultimately proved inaccurate.

“still lots to live for and lots planned,” he wrote at the time.
