Billie Eilish faces criticism over ‘stolen land’ remarks from Tongva Tribe

The Native American tribe slams Billie Eilish's “stolen land” callout, after claiming that her multimillion-dollar Los Angeles mansion is their ancestral territory.

As per WIBC 93.1FM, the Tongva tribe claimed that Billie’s $3 million home is built on their ancestral land. They pointed out that celebrities need to be more specific when using Indigenous history to make a point.

On Sunday, February 1, the Bad Guy singer used her Grammys acceptance speech to criticize ICE and announced that “no one is illegal on stolen land.”

The Los Angeles Basin’s Indigenous people, or "First Angelenos," appreciate Billie Eilish’s support but want more. They noted she hasn't reached out directly and urged stars to acknowledge their tribe by name.

A Tongva spokesperson told the Daily Mail, “Eilish has not contacted our tribe directly regarding her property, we do value the instance when public figures provide visibility to the true history of this country.”

The representative further added that they hope that in future discussions, “the tribe can explicitly be referenced to ensure the public understands that the greater Los Angeles Basin remains Gabrieleno Tongva territory.”
