Karan Johar has expressed admiration for Shah Rukh Khan as he made his debut appearance at the 2026 Met Gala.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC, the filmmaker spoke at length about his bond with the actor, crediting Khan for his career.
Reflecting on their decades-long friendship, Karan couldn’t contain his excitement as he expressed pride in following in the footsteps of the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai star.
He said, “Well, for me it's so emotional. Shah Rukh is such a large part of my career repertoire. I've done my first five films with him, and he's the reason I stand here today. So for him to have come last year and me this year, it's like life feels like a complete circle.”
For the unversed, the duo has delivered a string of Bollywood masterpieces, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, and My Name Is Khan.
Karan made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. The film went on to become one of the most defining films in the history of Indian cinema.
